Quest Named a Leader in Gartner's Magic Quadrant for Application Performance Monitoring

Gartner has published its first Application Performance Monitoring (APM) Magic Quadrant, which assesses 19 vendors on their “Ability to Execute” and “Completeness of Vision” in the APM market. I am pleased to announce that Quest is in the LEADERS quadrant. Gartner believes our vision and ability to execute are stronger than nearly all other APM offerings in the marketplace. The report places Quest as one of the leading vendors in the APM market, and validates everything we’ve done with our APM solution, Foglight.

Catalogue Retailer Fulfills Promise of Complete Application Visibility


A mid-size catalogue and fulfillment company increased efficiency of staff and the reach of its application monitoring, while cutting $300,000 from annual operating expenses. 

The company's IT staffers support multiple business applications, both internal and customer-facing. They were getting complaints about performance problems from customers trying to access the applications. However, the customers were seldom able to provide enough detail for replicating or troubleshooting the issues. The company needed a solution and had an ambitious goal: “We wanted to get end-to-end visibility from start to finish—from the end user and the web site all the way down to the web and application servers, through SAP/Oracle and back again,” said one of the IT managers. 

After assessing the options, the company chose Quest as the only vendor that met its criteria. By using Quest's Foglight to monitor performance and the end-user experience, the company has achieved its end-to-end vision for its most critical applications. Using Foglight, the IT staffers can track what the end user is doing and follow the transaction all the way through. They can also get an historical view. “Before, the only way we found problems was when customers called us," reported the IT manager. "Now, we are catching problems before the customer does. In fact, in most cases, we resolve the issue before the customer notices. When we tell our peers from other companies what we have done with Quest, they think we’re lying." 

Reduction in overall staff time required to support the applications has yielded an annual savings of $200,000 for the company. The ability to expand support to 24 x 7 with no additional headcount has saved another $100,000 a year. “Quest’s customer service is stellar. We have a lot of vendors, but what we really want is partners," explained the IT manager. "We only have a handful that we see are true partners, and Quest is one. They have been excellent to work with.”

A global leader in education technology, Blackboard Inc., needed a tool to provide deep diagnostics to identify the root causes of problems quickly, without introducing extra load into the system.
